Bri Enoch and Robert McKenna defended a hospitalist from Barstow Community Hospital

Barstow Community Hospital was brought into a lawsuit almost two years after it was filed and shortly before all other named defendants settled out of the case for a seven-figure amount. The plaintiff had undergone surgery for a necrotic gallbladder and suffered a bowel perforation as consequence. Following a prolonged post operative hospital stay, the plaintiff was discharged and went into septic shock that resulted in over two dozen surgeries, a permanent colostomy, and end stage renal failure. The settling co-defendant surgeon testified at trial denying any responsibility for the patient and essentially blaming the hospitalist for the outcome. The plaintiff sought over three million dollars for medical care in addition to general damages. Following a three-week trial in San Bernardino, the jury returned a defense verdict for the hospitalist.
