Jim Kjar wins jury trial alleging racial and gender discrimination

Plaintiff, a black female, alleged a long pattern of discrimination and failure to promote by her former employer, a public entity (city). The defendant lawyer represented her in her administrative hearing, which she lost. It was admitted at trial that the lawyer failed to timely file a civil lawsuit to preserve plaintiff’s personal claim for damages. The case was tried on the issue of whether or not plaintiff had a valid gender and racial discrimination lawsuit. Plaintiff called many current and former employees of the city to support her claim. Legal experts were called by both sides on the issue of the merits of plaintiff’s case. After a three-week trial, the judge rendered a directed verdict in favor of the attorney.
