Jim Kjar wins jury trial in bariatric surgery case
Plaintiff underwent a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure for morbid obesity performed by the defendant bariatric surgeon. Postoperatively, the patient became septic and suffered a cardiac arrest. She claimed permanent damages as a result of her injuries. She put forth a theory that the surgeon did not closely monitor her vital signs after surgery, particularly her EKG tracings that showed developing cardiac insufficiency. Plaintiff was represented by prominent medical malpractice attorney Jeffrey Raynes. After two days of deliberations, the jury returned a defense verdict.
